Dr. Goel (right) in his lab with PhD student Anjan Goswami.
Dr. Ramesh Goel will discuss his work with "forever chemicals": per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). These chemicals are commonly used in various industrial and consumer products (non-stick cookware, water-repellent clothing, etc.) but resist degradation in wastewater treatment plants. These PFAS are then in biosolids which are used as fertilizer and enter agricultural soils. This raises significant concerns about the impact of PFAS on human health and environment. Come hear about Dr. Goel's multi-disciplinary project funded by the EPA to develop effective strategies to minimize the risks associated with PFAS in agricultural environments, protecting both the food supply and the health of farming communities.
Light refreshments and drinks will be provided. You are welcome to bring your own lunch or purchase one at the Starley Commons Cafe in the Warnock Engineering Building across from the meeting location.
