2024 Celebration of Women In Engineering Industry Representatives
Special Guest: Ruth Novak. Retired aerospace executive. Ruth started her career in 1960 with Hercules Aerospace Corporation after earning a Masters Degree in Mathematics. Ruth worked her way up to becoming Vice President of Navy Programs. Ruth has received many awards including the first ever Life Time Achievement Award from the Utah Women Tech Council, an honorary Doctorate of Science and Engineering from Utah State University, and the Governor's Medal in Science and Technology. Catherine "Caite" Beck, System Engineer, L3Harris. Aerospace Engineering (B.S.), Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering (M.S.E.). Caite Beck is a Special Operations Command (SOCOM) Systems Engineer at L3Harris where she coordinates with multi-faceted engineering teams to execute programs supporting military communication needs. Words of advice: Explore projects and topics that interest you and are uniquely available in a university setting while you are there, even if they differ from your choice of degree. Allie Brooks, Sales Engineer, Rohde & Schwarz USA. BS Biological Engineering. Rohde & Schwarz is a global technology company specializing in innovative solutions for electronic test and measurement, broadcast and media, and secure communication. Allie works closely with customers to understand their unique technical requirements, offering insights into how equipment can meet their needs, demonstrating features of our equipment, and supporting the customer with their purchase. Jessica Chappell, Principal, Structural Design Studio. BS Civil Engineering (Structural). Jessica is a licensed Professional Structural Engineer (SE) with 20 years of consulting experience. She has designed structural systems on all types of structures, from religious facilities all over the western hemisphere to museums and healthcare, including the recently opened Intermountain Primary Children's Hospital - Lehi Campus. She is currently serving on the Utah Seismic Safety Commission, the Cottonwood Heights Planning Commission, and the Envision Utah Board of Directors, and believes firmly in community involvement by technical professionals. Kimberly "Kim" Clark, Owner, Via Consulting, LLC. BS Civil Engineering. Kim works in the transportation industry and has experience in planning, environmental, design, construction, and operations. A major part of her job is bringing groups together to define common goals and create effective and sustainable change acceptable to multiple parties. Sharon works with manufacturing engineers, mechanical technicians, and their managers to create training content, document processes and procedures, and develop employee proficiency in their assigned roles. Amy McManus, Senior Director of Regulatory Affairs, Scientia Vascular. ME Environmental Engineering. Amy assists with regulatory compliance guidance for the company. She helps formulate regulatory submission strategy as well as submission construction and responses. She assists with regional growth, compliance understanding, compiles submissions as well and maintains filings post commercialization. Finally she supports the product life cycle post commercialization for post market surveillance as well. Michelle Morgan, SLC Engineering COO, Global Head of Engineering Communications, Goldman Sachs. Michelle helps run and facilitate the strategy of Goldman Sachs' large Engineering division based out of the Salt Lake City office, and she runs a global team that serves as the engine for all internal and external communications that impact our global engineers, which now constitutes one third of all GS employees. She helps establish and optimize manufacturing processes to efficiently transfer medical devices from R&D prototypes to full-scale production. Jessica O'Neill, Process Engineer, Kimberly-Clark. BS Chemical Engineering. Jessica organizes and supports trials on all of the baby-care assets (diaper machines) in order to qualify new materials for cost-savings, better run-time or new product rollouts.
In addition,she conducts problem solves by working with operators and raw materials suppliers in order to help each machine run efficiently. Words of Advice: Be confident and ask questions. Arpana Sinha, Vice President, Goldman Sachs, BE Computer Science. Arpana's team, Margin Document Services, supports applications and processes for capturing and interpreting legal documentation for operational, pricing, and risk management functions across Global Markets, Credit Risk, Trading, Legal, Controllers, and Corporate Treasury. Hether Telford, Design Quality Manager, Kiewit. BS Civil Engineering. Hether develops Design Quality Programs for large transportation projects where she is able to work with both design and construction teams. She enjoys working with the teams in developing and refining procedures as well as training and mentoring. Prior to construction, all design documents are reviewed to verify that quality processes were followed. Words of advice: Ideas are made better by a group dedicated to collaboration.
Kristin Yoshimura, Section Chief, US Air Force Civilian. BS Mechanical Engineering. Kristin supervises multiple teams who develop and maintain the software for the A-10 aircraft. She recently moved to the position of supervisor – previously she was a Product Owner and System Design Engineer of one of the A-10 software teams. Words of advice: Ask questions (ask lots of questions)! Have the courage to seek out help or advice from co-workers, leaders, mentors, tutors, etc. and help others - even the little things get noticed!LinkedIn
