We are kicking off the year with attendance at the Utah Biomedical Engineering Conference on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at the University of Utah Alumni House, 155 S Central Campus Drive. The Utah Chapter is proud to be a sponsor of this event. Several of our ARCS Scholars are or have been Biomedical Engineering majors and we hope to see some of them at the conference.
The conference is an all-day affair, but the ARCS event will just be for breakfast and the keynote. We will have a table reserved for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and will attend the keynote address as a group from 9:15 to 10:15. There is no charge, but reservations are necessary for meals. We will transfer your registration to the UBEC system so there is no need to register twice.
The keynote speaker is Kirk Ririe. Ririe’s pioneering work in molecular biology created the beginning of Idaho Technology, later rebranded as BioFire (now a part of bioMerieux). Ririe has held a variety of positions including as CEO of BioFire Defense and Chief Innovation Officer of bioMerieux. Ririe recently co-launched a new business, Faro Molecular Inc. where he continues to develop molecular biology tools to improve human health. Ririe’s keynote talk will inspire attendees through a compelling narrative of translational research, innovation, and entrepreneurship in biotech.
