A Word From Our University Partners

College of Engineering

Dr. Charles Musgrave, Dean  of the University of Utah College of Engineering knows the importance of attracting the best and brightest students to engineering and other scientific disciplines.

Dean Musgrave and his staff provide phenomenal support to the organization by hosting many of the events and providing additional financial support to ARCS Scholars.

John A. Moran Eye Center

Each year, the Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS) Foundation awards $15,000 to a first-year resident at the John A. Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah to seed promising research. The Moran Eye Center then matches the award for the following two years of residency, providing a total of $45,000 for a young researcher. Moran residents receive protected research time for one half day each week.

“Clinician-scientists bridge the worlds of scientific discovery and patient care, and their research remains deeply connected to the people they serve,” said Moran CEO and Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences Chair Jeff Pettey, MD, MBA. “ARCS Foundation support empowers these early-career investigators to continue their work to translate discoveries into treatments that restore sight and improve lives. I’m deeply grateful for Moran’s meaningful and ongoing partnership with ARCS.”

University Support Through ARCS Scholar Awards

An ARCS Foundation Utah Scholar Award is a prestigious, unrestricted award of $15,000 that provides an essential tool for recruiting and retaining top students to the University of Utah College of Engineering and the University of Utah School of Medicine John A. Moran Eye Center.   Depending on the department, the ARCS award qualifies recipients for other funding for their full PhD program.

As of Fall 2025, the total funding to this important effort by the Utah Chapter is $15,000 each to 64 scholars.
