Dr. Ramesh Goel discussed his work with "forever chemicals": per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). These chemicals are commonly used in various industrial and consumer products (non-stick cookware, water-repellent clothing, etc.) but resist degradation in wastewater treatment plants. These PFAS are then in biosolids which are used as fertilizer and enter agricultural soils. There are significant concerns about the impact of PFAS on human health and the environment. Come hear about Dr. Goel's multi-disciplinary project funded by the EPA to develop effective strategies to minimize the risks associated with PFAS in agricultural environments, protecting both the food supply and the health of farming communities.
