The 2019 Utah ARCS Scholar Awards Lucheon was held October 16 in the Catmull Gallery in the Warnock Engineering Building. Sue Dintelman, president of the Utah Chapter, served as MC for the event. She introduced a panel of our second year scholars consisting of Anna Deleray and Bram Hunt from the Biomedical Engineering Department, Anthony Yin, Mechanical Engineering and Dr. Ariana Levin, Ophthalmology. Each student described their research projects and fielded questions from attendees.
Dr. Richard Brown, Dean of the College of Engineering and Dr. Randy Olson, CEO John Moran Eye Center both spoke about their experiences with ARCS scholars and expressed appreciation for the support of ARCS.
This year the Utah ARCS chapter presented an award in the memory of Noel de Nevers, Professor Emeritus in the Chemical Engineering Department. Stacy Firth, Assistant
Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department gave a tribute to Dr. de Nevers. The Noel de Nevers Memorial Award was presented to Indra Elizabeth Kumar, Computer Science.
Chapter awards were presented to Jadie Rae Adams, Computer Science and Emily Diedrich, Civil Engineering. The Diane and Tom Might Award in honor of their grandson
Bertrand Might was presented to Allie Simpson, MD, Opthalmology. The Kathie and Mark Miller Foundation Award was presented to Sean Collon, MD, Ophthalmology who was unable to attend the event because of his surgery schedule.
Closing remarks were given by Daniel A. Reed, Sr. VP of Academic Affairs.
